Men's Basketball Head Coach John Dunne Named Skip Prosser Award Finalist

BOSTON, MA - Saint Peter's College Head Men's Basketball Coach John Dunne has been named one of sixteen finalists for the 2011 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award it was announced today. Dunne, in his fifth season at the helm of the Peacocks, led the team to its first 20-win season since 1990-91 and its first MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995. He won just 11 games during his first two seasons, but has won 47 games in his last three seasons. The winner of the award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 1st in Houston, site of the Final Four.

“It's an outstanding group of sixteen finalists,” said Mark Prosser, son of the late Skip Prosser. “Each coach has done a first class job with his program and each would be a fine recipient of the award.”

FInalists include, Murry Bartow (East Tennessee State), Rick Byrd (Belmont), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), John Dunne (Saint Peter's), Jim Engles (N.J.I.T.), B.J. Hill (Northern Colorado), Rob Jeter (Milwaukee), Sydney Johnson (Princeton), Greg Lansing (Indiana State), Jim Larranaga (George Mason), Chris Mack (Xavier), Mike Sutton (Tennessee Tech), Brad Stevens (Butler), Blaine Taylor (Old Dominion), Wayne Tinkle (Montana) and Gary Waters (Cleveland State).

"Its truly an honor to be mentioned with a group of coaches like this for an award named after a great coach," said Dunne.

Dunne came to Saint Peter's in 2006 after spending 14 years as an assistant at the Division I, II and III levels. A 1992 graduate of Ithaca College, he also played high school basketball for legendary coach Jack Curran at Archbishop Molloy High School.
