The Saint Peter's University men and women's swimming and diving team kicked off their season in record breaking fashion at the Sonny Werblin Invite.
Freshman Rachel Wuko finished third in the 50 yard freestyle (24.71) and set a new school record while also posting the fastest time in the conference in that event. Wuko also finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.76 and eighth in the 200 freestyle with a time 2:04.54.
On the second day of the invitational, freshman Christina Petrelis set the school record in the 1650 yard freestyle. Petrelis finished in fifth in a Peacock record time of 18:20.88.
Other top 8 finishers for the women included: Alexandra Sison (4th- 200 breaststroke- 2:34.00, 100 Breaststroke 4th 1:10.85), Alma Lopez (6th- 200 freestyle- 2:02.28), Brigitte Rasmussen (6th- 100 breaststroke- 1:11.34, 6th- 200 breaststroke- 2:37.37) and Cristina DeCisneros (8th- 100 butterfly- 1:02.10).
The men also had a successful start to the season placing a swimmer in the top three of all events, with the exception of two.
Leading the Peacocks was senior Lovro Bilonic, who finished first in 2 events (100 breaststroke- 58.24, 200 backstroke- 1:57.32) and also placed second in 3 events (200 I.M- 1:56.28, 200 breaststroke- 2:11.29, 400 I.M- 4:19.84)
Senior captain Peter Jimenez was the top finisher in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.82) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (58.65).
Valerijs Lebedevs was the top finisher in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.53 and also finished second in both the 100 freestyle (48.93) and the 200 butterfly (1:58.92).
Ayberk Furkan Ozturk came in second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.24) and third in the 100 butterfly (54.53).
Mark Conte placed second in the 100 backstroke 52.94, while Facundo Monteiro Kempf placed third in the 200 backstroke 1:57.92. Sean Dunne placed second in 100 butterfly (52.95).
The Peacocks will begin their home schedule on Friday, Novemeber 9th, against Seton Hall at 5pm.
