In their third overtime match of the year, the Saint Peter's University men's soccer team (4-11, 2-4 MAAC) was unable to come out with a victory and fell to the Loyola University Greyhounds (11-5-1, 6-1 MAAC), 3-2, this evening.
Saint Peter's was able to get on the board first, scoring in the thirty-third minute on Andrew Kelly's second marker of the year, assisted by Marcel Maddee'. Loyola quickly bounced back and evened the match just six minutes later as Larry Ndjock scored on a penalty kick (39:27).
The game entered the halftime break tied at 1, with Saint Peter's establishing a 9-5 advantage on shot attempts, while Loyola had the edge on corner kicks (4-3).
Loyola wasted little time applying pressure in the second half, as Ndjock scored his second goal of the game less than four minutes into the second stanza to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
With 15 minutes left in regulation, Maddee again provided the offense for Saint Peter's, beating the Greyhound keeper on a one-on-one off a feed from Lennard Ann to tie the score at 2-2.
Both teams combined for 5 total shots in the first overtime period, with just 1 being on goal (Loyola).
In the 107th minute of play however, Loyola's Connor Thompson fired an unassisted shot from 19 yards out that found the back of the net to win the game for the hosts. The Peacocks failed to get a shot in in the second OT.
Overall, the Peacocks out-shot Loyola by a 21-15 margin and took 9 corners to the Greyhounds' 7.
Saint Peter's returns to action this Sunday with a 2pm match against Rider in Lawrenceville, NJ.
