Recap:

The Saint Peter's College baseball team dropped both games of today's double-header to UNC-Asheville by scores of 7-3 and 4-3, respectively. The Peacocks led early in both games, but the Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the same innings SPC scored in, to either tie the game or take the lead. Dom Macaluso went 3 innings and gave up 5 hits, 4 earned runs and struck out 4 to be credited with the loss in the first game, while Matt Mancini gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs and walked 2 in the second game to also receive the loss.

In the first game, the Peacocks scored two runs in the top of the first, but allowed five in the bottom of the inning. Saint Peter's had the bases loaded with one out, and scored their first marker on an RBI walk by Nicholas Henriquez. After Matt Speckmann fouled out, Ariel Ramirez would also walk in a runner for the second run of the inning. The Peacocks would lead three runners on base, after William Rawson grounded out to second.

Asheville added their sixth run in the third run, before the Peacocks managed to score their third marker of the game in the top of the fourth. Mike Scicutella, who got on base after getting hit by a pitch, scored on an error by the Bulldog's shortstop. The Bulldogs later recorded their seventh and final run in the sixth inning.

Justyn Carter went 2-4 in the game to lead SPC, while Henriquez went 1-2 with an RBI. Hunter Bryant finished 2-3 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored to pace Asheville.

After two scoreless innings in the second game, the Peacocks got on the board in the top of the third, scoring two runs on an error by Asheville's left fielder, and an RBI single by Russ Stupienski. Speckman would single to right in the first at bat of the game, and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ramirez. Speckman later scored on the Bulldog's error, which Scicutella would advance to second on. After a Justyn Carter ground out that advanced Scicutella to third, Stupienski drove in the run with a triple to center field.

The Bulldogs quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, needing only one hit to score two runs by way of a Saint Peter's error on a sac fly and an RBI lineout. Asheville had the bases loaded with one out, following a lead off single, a hit batter and a walk.

The hosts scored another marker in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead, but the Peacocks evened the score again in the fifth. Ramirez singled on after a bunt with one out, and would score (unearned) from first after the Bulldog's committed an error on Scicutella's bunt single. Mancini kept Asheville scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, but the home team scored the game-wining run in the bottom of the sixth.

Scicutella led the Peacocks going 2-3 from the plate with one run scored. Russ Stupienski recorded the lone RBI for SPC. The Bulldogs were led by Cody Buch's 2 runs, and 2 hits in 3 at bats.

The Peacocks will return to action on Saturday, March 3rd as they travel to Richmond, Virginia to face off against the Richmond Spiders for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
