The Saint Peter's College Peahens dropped a tough doubleheader at the Seton Hall University Pirates this afternoon. The Peahens dropped the first game 5-1 and then fell in a game two slugfest, 10-8. The Peahens could only muster four hits in game one as Carolyn Griffin took the loss. In game two, Nicole Olmedo went 3-4 with a grand slam and another run scored. Francesca D'Amato went 3-4 with three RBI in game two. Griffin took the loss in game two in relief.
In the opener, Seton Hall struck first with a pair of runs in the second. The Peahens got one back in the fourth on an RBI single by Kristine Rice. The Pirates answered in the bottom half of the inning with a three spot which capped the scoring. Tori Feorenzo was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored. Griffin gave up all five runs, four earned on seven hits.
In the nightcap, Seton Hall scored a run in the first, but the Peahens then scored three in third on an RBI single by Shelby Beaver and a two run single by D'Amato. The Priates took a 5-3 lead with four runs scored in bottom of the inning. Olmedo then put the Peahens ahead 7-5 with grand slam in the top of the fourth. Seton Hall then took an 8-7 lead with a three-spot in bottom of the fourth. They added two insurance runs in the fifh to take a 10-8 lead. Saint Peter's scored their final run in the sixth on an RBI double by D'Amato, but it wasn't enought in the 10-8 loss.
The Peahens will return to action on Saturday afternoon in their home opener as they host Columbia at 1pm at Jaroschak Field.
