The Saint Peter's College Peahens (2-17) dropped a doubleheader to the Columbia University Lions (5-14) this afternoon, 5-2 and 7-1. The Peahens fell behind in both games and could not mount a comeback. Shelby Beaver went 5-7 on the day with an RBI. Nicole Olmedo went 3-6 with a homer in the twin bill. Erica Colon took the loss in game one, while Tori Feorenzo took the loss in game two.
In game one, Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring three times in the second. They added a single run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Saint Peter's got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer by Nicole Olmedo. The Peahens then made the score 4-2 in the sixth on an RBI hit by Francesca D'Amato. Columbia scored an insurance run in the seventh for the three run victory. Olmedo, D'Amato and Shelby Beaver were all 2-3. Erica Colon took the loss, although she pitched just one innings, but allowed two runs on one hit. Carolyn Griffin pitched the remainder of the game allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits.
In game two it was Columbia again who struck first with a pair of runs. The Peahens got one back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Shelby Beaver. The Lions then scored on in the second, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to take the game 7-1. Beaver went 3-4 with an RBI in the game. Tori Feorenzo took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on 12 hits while striking out four.
Saint Peter's will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face Columbia.
