The Saint Peter's College Peahens (4-17) dropped a doubleheader to the Wagner College Seahawks (12-26) this afternoon, 11-5 and 7-0. The Peahens had a lead going into the sixth of game one, but a seven run sixth by the Seahawks gave them the lead and the win. In the nightcap, the game was scoreless going to the fourth, but Wagner put up six in the innings and held off the Peahens.
In game one, Saint Peter's struck first in the bottom of the first as Nicole Olmedo and Shelby Beaver hit back-to-back doubles for a 1-0 Peahens lead. Wagner tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. The Peahens took lead back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Alexis Gallagher and an RBI single by Taylor Feorenzo. The Peahens took the lead into the sixth, but Wagner scored seven times in the innings to take a 9-3 lead. Saint Peter's made it 9-5 in the bottom of the inning, scoring two on an RBI single by Francesca D'Amato and an RBI FC by Krystine Rice. Wagner added two more in the seventh to come away with the victory. Nicole Olmedo, Rice and Taylor Corretjer each went 2-4, while Gallagher went 2-5.
In the second game, Wagner used a six run fourth to open up a 6-0 lead and added another in the fifth for the 7-0 victory. Saint Peter's could only muster four hits, one each by Gallagher, Olmedo, Shelby Cogan and Corretjer.
Saint Peter's will return to action on Thursday when they travel to face Fairleigh Dickinson.
