The Saint Peter's College (12-20) baseball team rebounded from back-to-back losses last weekend with a 3-1 win over Long Island University (13-20) this afternoon. The Peacocks scored all three of their runs in the first inning. Adam Purcilly pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits, 1 walk and striking out 4.
A leadoff single by Mike Scicutella started off the first frame for the Peacocks and later scored on a throwing error by the Blackbirds' catcher. A sacrifice fly by Pat Farrell brought home William Rawson (2-0), while an RBI groundout by Matt Speckmann to score Chris Grimes accounted for the third and final SPC run.
LIU scored their lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The Blackbirds out-hit the Peacocks by an 11-5 margin, with each team committing an error in the contest. Ariel Ramirez led Saint Peter's going 2-3, while Scicutella and Grimes both went 1-3 with an RBI.
Saint Peter's returns home for MAAC action this weekend, as they host Canisius in a three-game series. The first game of Saturday's double-header is scheduled to start at 12pm.
