The Saint Peter's College Peahens earned a split of their doubleheader with the Lafayette College Leopards this afternoon behind a brilliant pitching performance by Shelby Beaver. She pitched a complete game in the 2-1 second game win, allowing just one run while scattering nine hits. Nicole Olmedo and Chelsea Crews each went 2-3 in the second game, while Shelby Cogan went 2-2 with a run scored. Saint Peter's dropped the first game 4-1.
Lafayette started the scoring in game one with a single run in the third. Saint Peter's responded in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Alexis Gallagher. Lafayette then took the lead back, scoring an unearned run in the fifth. They added to their lead with three more in the sixth and won 4-1. Tori Feorenzo took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned on five hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
In game two, it was Saint Peter's who got out on top with a two-spot in the third. Gallagher hit an RBI groundout and Feorenzo laid down the perfect suicide squeeze bunt that scored Taylor Corretjer for a 2-0 lead. The lead held up all the way through. Lafayette got on the board in the seventh with a solo run. They had a runner thrown out at the plate in the inning and the game ended with the tying and going ahead runs in scoring position.
Saint Peter's will return to action on Friday afternoon when they host Canisius at 2pm.
