Peacocks Blank FDU 2-0 for First Win of the Season

Jersey City, NJ- After a scoreless opening half, the Saint Peter's University women's soccer team (1-1) netted two second half goals against the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights (0-1-1) for their first win of the season. Desipte being outshot, the Peacocks were able to capitatlize on their scoring opportunities and were also aided by the outstanding defensive play of senior goal keeper Caitlin Hoffer. Today's victory marks the first official win by any Saint Peter's athletic team, after the school announced the official status change from college to university earlier this week.

The teams entered the half-time break tied at 0-0, and managed just a combined 6 shots (FDU-4, Saint Peter's-2). In the 53rd minute however, freshman forward Amanda Feldstein would break the tie, as she followed up her own shot and kicked in a save attempt by the FDU goalie. Less than ten minutes later, the Peacocks drew a foul from 25 yards out. Sophomore midfielder Kasey Murphy made a short pass to junior forward Emily Fenice who proceeded to blast a shot into upper right corner of the goal.

Following the victory Head Coach Brett Sarsfield commented, "I'm really pleased with the girls' efforts today. We had a lot of different players step up and this was a great way to end our opening weekend of play."

Senior goalie Caitlin Hoffer came up with 8 saves in the victory. Saint Peter's registered 3 corner kicks to FDU's 8, and committed 6 fouls to the Knight's 3. Nicole Tarfow was awarded the lone yellow card of the match. For the match, the Knights finished with 16 total shots (8 on goal) and Saint Peter's finished with 5 (3 on goal).

The Peacocks return to action next Friday, August 24th for a 7pm match against the Monmouth University Hawks in West Long Branch, NJ.
