The Saint Peter's University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against MAAC rival Iona College this afternoon in New Rochelle, NY. The men came away with a decisive 111-82 victory over the Gaels, while the women just fell short of a victory, losing by 12 points (124-112).
Both the men's and women's 400 Yard Relay teams defeated Iona for a sweep; finishing in times of 3:31.72 and 4:06.08, respectively. The women's relay team consisted of Michelle Corpuz, Brigitte Rasmussen, Cristina DeCisneros and Rachel Wuko, while the men's team consisted of Facu Monteiro, Lovro Bilonic, Sean Dunne and Ayberk Ozturk.
Each team also had 7 first place finishes.
The women were led by Anastasiia Mushtei (500 Yard Freestyle- 5:12.86 & 1000 Yard Freestyle- 10:36.69) and Rachel Wuko (50 Yard Freestyle- 24.80 & 100 Yard Freestyle- 53.31), who each came away with two first place finishes.
Both of Mushtei's times in the 500 and 1000 Freestyle broke the previous school record, while Wuko's mark in the 100 Free also set a new Saint Peter's standard.
Christina Petrelis (200 Yard Backstroke- 2:17.34), Alexandra Sison (200 Yard Breaststroke- 2:27.59) and Cristina Decisneros (200 Yard Butterfly- 2:12.62) also placed first in their respective events.
The men were led by Valerijs Lebedevs's two first place finishes: 200 Yard Freestyle- 1:44.50 & 100 Yard Freestyle- 47.39.
Brendan King (1000 Yard Freestyle- 10:09.47), Peter Jimenez (50 Yard Freestyle- 22.70), Lovro Bilonic (200 Yard IM- 1:55.27), Sean Dunne (200 Yard Butterfly- 1:58.24) and Facundo Monteiro Kempf (200 Yard Backstroke- 1:55.14) also won their respective events.
Additionally, Bilonic's and Peter Jimenez's 200 Breaststroke exhibition times currently rank 1st and 2nd, repsectively, in the MAAC.
Saint Peter's returns to action this weekend, as they travel to Brooklyn, NY to face the Terriers of St. Francis College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
