Men's Swimming And Diving Earns 116-89 Decision Against NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) won two individual events and was a member of a winning relay to power Saint Peter's past NJIT 116-89 in non-conference men's swimming action on Friday.

Gomez won the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.07 and then won the 100 back with a time of 53.64. The freshman started the night by teaming up with Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne, Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry) to take first place in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:37.16.

Dunne also won the100 breast (1:00.42) and finished second in the 50 free (22.06). Nick Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) won the 1000 free (10.00.80) while placing second in the 500 free (4:53.08) and second in the 100 fly (55.26). Alejandro Rubin (Carcas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) was the other individual winner on the night after taking home first place in the 100 fly (53.80) and also finished third in the 200 free (1:47.90).

The Peacocks capped the night by winning the 200 free (1:32.09) thanks to the quartet of Omar Hassan (Bayonne, N.J./High-Tech), Rubin, Justin Johnson (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) and Alex McElvaney (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township).

McGraw finished second in both the 200 free (1:47.75) and 100 free (50.13) while Diego Rueda (New York, N.Y./School of the Future) was second in the 1000 free (10:23.42), third in the 400 IM (4:27.20) and third in the 500 free (5:00.95). Hassan recorded a second-place standing in the 100 back (57.27) and Jimenez was third in the 100 breast (1:02.19).

The Saint Peter's men's swimming and diving team will be joined by the Peacocks women's swimming and diving team at the Frank Elms Invitational on Nov. 23-24.
