Gomez And Samardzic Pace Swimming And Diving At Frank Elm Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) finished sixth in the 400 IM to pace the Saint Peter's men's swimming team to a fifth-place standing at the Frank Elm Invitational on Saturday. Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) finished seventh in the 100 back to fuel the women's swimming and diving team to an eighth-place standing.

Gomez finished sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:09.22 in the A final for the Peacocks men's squad while Samardzic was seventh in the 100 back with a time of 58.06 to be the only women's swimmer to advance to the A final on the afternoon. Samardzic also placed 14th in the 400 IM (4:31.46).

Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) finished 14th in the 100 breast (1:08.74). Samardzic and Sison teamed up with Cristina DeCisneros (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Crest) to place 11th in the 200-medley relay (1:49.56) to start the afternoon. Samardzic, Wuko, Alma Lopez  (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) and Anastasiia Mushtei  (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) placed 14th in the 800-free relay (7:55.97).

On the men's side, Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) finished 19th in the 100 breast (1:03.74).  Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed 21st in the 100 fly (52.90) while Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) was 23rd in the 200 free (1:47.12) and Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) placed 24th in the 100 fly (53.79).

Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry), Riepe, Rubin and Gomez placed sixth in the 800-free relay (7:10.28) while Gomez, Jimenez, Rubin and Dunne teamed up to finish 12th in the 200-medley relay (1:39.63).

The United States Military Academy leads the men's side with 1691.5 points while West Chester (1280.5), Drexel (943), Villanova (485) and Saint Peter's (129) round ot the field.

Wagner leads the women's field with 880 points while the United States Military Academy (805.5), West Chester (796.5), Columbia (780), Rutgers (756), Drexel (605), Villanova (496) and Saint Peter's (155) rounds out the field.

Saint Peter's returns to action in the final round of the Frank Elm Invitational. Preliminaries start at 10 a.m. and final begin at 5 p.m.
