Samardzic And Gomez Both Record Top-5 Finishes On Final Day Of Frank Elm Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) and Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) both finished an event in the Top-5 to lead the Saint Peter's men's and women's swimming and diving team at the Frank Elm Invitational on Sunday. The men finished fifth while the women took ninth in the event.

Samardzic finished fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.37 while Gomez played fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.70.

On the men's side, Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) placed 11th in the 1650 free (16:34.63) and 12th in the 200 fly (1:58.30) while Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) was 15th in the 200 fly (2:02.22). Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) placed 18th in the 200 breast (2:25.68).

The relay team of Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry), Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Hassan and Rubin placed 12 in the 400-free relay (3:20.19).

The United States Military Academy won the men's event with a total of 2,646.50 while West Chester (1,877.50), Drexel (1,450), Villanova (738), Saint Peter's (287) and Massachusetts (227) rounded out the men's field.

Along with Samardzic's Top-5 finish, Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Crest) placed 14th in the 100 free (53.34), Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine / Finans Deukomi) was 16th in the 1650 free (17.27.83) and Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) finished 22nd in the 200 breast (2:28.38) for the Peacocks' women swimmers.

The relay team of Wuko, Samardzic, Sison and Alma Lopez (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) finished 14th in the 400-free relay (3:38.44).

Columbia won the women's side with a score of 1,378.50 while Rutgers (1,321.5), the United States Military Academy (1,312.5), Wagner (1,285.5), West Chester (1,171), Drexel (849), Villanova (732), Massachusetts (243), Saint Peter's (236) and Boston University rounded out the field.

The Peacocks return to the pool at the Loyola Greyhound Invitational on Dec. 6. First splash is 5 p.m.
