Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairfield defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made three saves for the Peacocks (3-9-5, 1-5-3 MAAC) in the loss.
Reco McLaren, Jon Clements and Daniel Shaw each found the twine for the Stags (7-5-3, 4-3-2 MAAC) while Joe Martin turned away three saves in the winning effort.
Fairfield scored twice in the first half and then added a goal in the second frame to earn the victory.
McLaren took a long pass from Nuno Rodriguez and found the twine at 24:18 to give the Stags a 1-0 edge. Clements added to the margin when he headed in a corner kick from George Newton at the 29:31 mark to give Fairfield a 2-0 edge at halftime.
Shaw then sealed the win when he picked up a loose ball from the corner and found the netting at the 71:21 mark to increase the lead to 3-0.
Marcel Maddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elizabeth) had the best scoring chances for Saint Peter's, but could not convert. The junior hit the cross bar in the final minute in the first half and then had a penalty kick saved by Martin at 81:28.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday when they host Siena in the final game of the season. Game time is 2 p.m. Prior to the match, Saint Peter's will honor its four seniors.
