RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Fueled by a pair of individual wins by Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi), Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati /Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Crest), the Saint Peter's women's swimming and diving team swept all 11 events to earn dual meet victories against Manhattan and Montclair State on Friday night. The women downed Manhattan 150-53 and Montclair State 145-56 in the competition.
Mushtei took care of the long distance events with wins in the 1000 free (10:45.70) and the 500 free (5:30.62) and also finished second in the 200 free (2:04.84), an event she swam after only a short break after the 1000 free. Samardzic finished first in the 200 free (1:56.44) and the 100 back (58.30) while Wuko took care of the short distance free events after winning the 50 free (24.52) and the 100 free (52.93).
The Peacocks swept the Top-3 spots in the 200 IM with Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck) winning the event (2:14.62) and Christina Petrelis (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) (2:20.89) and Jenna Carbin (Neptune, N.J./Jackson Memorial) (2:21.10) placed 2-3 in the event. Cristina DeCisneros (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) won the 100 fly (1:01.45) and Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) (1:09.52) took first in the 100 breast to wrap up the individual winners on the night.
Petrelis also finished second in the 1000 free (11:10.15) while Feneron recorded a second-place standing in the 100 fly (1:01.52), Sison was second in the 100 free (56.11) and Carbin was second in the 100 back (1:03.81).
Michelle Corpuz (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), Brigitte Rasmussen (Virgin Islands/Country Day School), DeCisneros and Wuko got the meet started on the right foot with a win in the 200-medley relay and then the 200-free relay team of Samardzic, Corpuz, Feneron and Sison capped the 11-event sweep with the victory (1:43.47) in that event.
Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) and Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) each won two events to pace the men's swimming and diving team to a 115-86 win against Montclair State while the Peacocks lost to the Jaspers by one point, 101-100. Saint Peter's won the final six individual events before Manhattan took the 200-free relay to edge the Peacocks.
Dunne won the 100 free (59.62) and the 100 back (59.62) while Gomez was first in the 200 IM (1:57.93) and the 100 back (52.83) and Riepe won the long distance races with victories in the 100 free (10:00.53) and the 500 free (4:53.20).
The Peacocks swept the Top-3 spots in the 100 fly after Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American School Foundation) took first in (52.82) and Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) (54.32) and Riepe (54.41) finished 2-3 the event. Garcia also placed second in the 50 free (22.77) and Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry) finished third in the 200 free (1:49.14).
The 200-medley relay team of Gomez, Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), Rubin and Garcia finished second (1:40.33) while Alex McElvaney (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township), Omar Hassan (Bayonne, N.J./High-Tech), Jimenez and Justin Johnson (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton Township) teamed up to place third in the 200-free relay (1:34.00).
Saint Peter's will now take a break until the second semester and will make its first place in 2014 at Rider on Jan. 18.
