Stony Brook Downs Women's Basketball, 77-47

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's struggled from the field on Wednesday, as they were defeated by non-conference foe Stony Brook, 77-47.

Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) scored a season-high 13 points in the contest to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) and Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt/Modern Narmer Language School) registered eight points each in the Peacock loss.

In the first half, Stony Brook scored the first bucket off a layup by Chikilra Goodman. May would counter with a layup to tie the game 2-2. Following free throws from Brittany Snow and a layup from Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman), the game remained tied.

Stony Brook would begin to take off, beginning with a layup from Sabre Proctor. Following a Saint Peter's turnover, Kim Hanlon scored a three-pointer to give the Seawolves a 9-4 advantage. After a steal from Goodman, Proctor was able to make a jump shot to increase the Stony Brook lead.

Following a missed jump shot from Marcia Senatus (Roselle, N.J./Trenton Catholic), the Seawolves were able to hit another shot to take a 13-4 lead. Saint Peter's would stop the 9-0 run after a basket from May. Stony Brook would respond, hitting a jump shot on the next possession to give Stony Brook an 18-7 lead.

Stony Brook would continue to make its shots, taking a 25-8 lead behind another bucket from Proctor. The Peacocks would put together baskets, sparked by a trey from Smith and layups from Kaycee DeVoogd (Edison, N.J./New Providence) and Senatus.

With the scored 33-18 in favor of Stony Brook, Saint Peter's would score seven consecutive points to cut the deficit to 12. However, the Seawolves would counter, scoring eight straights to take a 41-25 advantage into halftime.     

In the second half, Stony Brook started the half with layup to increase its lead. Saint Peter's would respond with a 10-0 run, which was sparked by back-to-back buckets from Smith and May. Following the 10-0 run, the deficit was became single digits.

With the score 43-35, Stony Brook would stop the run with back-to-back field goals to give Stony Brook a 47-35 lead. Saint Peter's would answer with a trey from Mostafa to cut the deficit. Made free throws by Brittany Snow and a three-pointer from Hanlon gave Stony Brook a 55-38 lead. Following a Stony Brook turnover, Bridget Whitfield would hit a jump shot to trim the Seawolves deficit. Stony Brook would counter with a layup, expanding on its lead.

Stony Brook would not look back in this contest, winning the contest 77-47.

The Seawolves finished with four players in double-figures, including Proctor who finished with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Saint Peter's returns to action Dec. 9, when they hit the road to take on the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh University.
