Peacocks Pick Up First Win Of the Year In Final Game Against UMES

The Saint Peter's University (1-3) recorded 19 hits en route to their first win of the season, 12-7, against UMES (3-1). Erica Colon pitched a complete game; giving up 13 hits, 7 earned runs, 4 walks, while striking out 3 to earn the win.

Chelsea Crews went 4-5, driving in 2 runs and scoring one to help lead the squad to victory. Lexi Gallgher (3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Amber Velasquez (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) each recorded 3 hits in the win, while Francesca D'Amato (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 R), Shelby Beaver (2-5, 2 R) and Lee Harrison (2-4, 2 R) all recorded 2 hits. 

The Peacocks instantly jumped out in front, recording 3 runs in the top of the first. With 2 outs, D'Amato would homer to to center field. Three batters later, Crews doubled to right-center bringing home teammates Beaver and Harrison to make the score 3-0.

UMES bounced back with 2 runs of their own on a two-RBI double by Carmen Gurrola in the bottom half of the frame, but a sacrifice fly by Velasquez in the next inning reopened a two-run cushion. 

The two-run margin is the closest the Hawks would be for the remainder of the contest, as the Peacocks out-scored the hosts by an 8-5 margin in the last five innings. 

Saint Peter's returns to action on February 22nd, as they take part in the Elon Home Tournament. The Peacocks will face Elon at 4:30pm in North Carolina.
