Bilonic Named Most Outstanding Swimmer & Abdelaal Named Coach of the Year To Highlight Successful MAAC Champs for Swimming & Diving

The Saint Peter's University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the MAAC Championships yesterday evening at the Flickinger Athletic Center at Eerie Community College. The men finished 4th with a score of 498.5, while the women came in 5th with a score of 346.

Senior Lovro Bilonic was named the Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer, while Head Coach Mohamed Abdelaal received Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors. 

Bilonic broke the MAAC 200m Breaststroke record in the Saturday morning preliminaries; coming in at 1:57.59. He would go on to win the event with a time of 1:58.45.

Fellow senior Peter Jimenez finished right behind Bilonic in the 200m Breastroke, capturing 2nd place with a time of 2:01.41.

The women were led on Saturday by Alexandra Sison, who captured 1st place in the 200 Yard Breastroke, finishing in 2:22.02. Anastasiia Mushtei took 2nd in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 17:18.31

On Friday, the men's 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Mark Conte, Peter Jimenez, Valerijs Lebedevs and Yohancey Kingston edged eventual MAAC champion Rider, with a time of 1:31.58. 

Bilonic and Peter Jimenez also finished one-two in the 100m Backstroke; coming in at 54.44 and 55.96, respectively.

Lebedevs clinched a second gold medal on the day in the 100 Yard Butterfly finishing in 48.80, while freshman Mark Conte picked up a 1st place finish of his own in the 100 Yard Backstroke (50.56).

Sean Dunne came away with a bronze medal in the 400 Yard IM (4:04.88).

The men finished the night with a silver medal performance in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. Members of the relay team were Lebedevs, Trey McGraw, Ayberk Ozturk and Bilonic (6:46.63).

Both Mushtei (1000 Yard Freestyle- 10:17.76) and Sison (100 Yard Backstroke- 1:05.54) captured 2nd place finishes in their respective events, while Christina Petrelis took 5th in the 400 Yard IM (4:41.52).

The women recorded 30 points alone in the 100 Yard Butterfly, as Cristina Decisneros came 3rd (58.25), followed by Rachel Wuko in 5th (58.41). 

Saint Peter's opened up competition on Friday with a 4th place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay event. Peter Jimenez, Ozturk, Kingston and Bilonic combined to finish in 1:23.74.

Bilonic would garner his first of three gold medals that day, besting fellow teammate Lebedevs in the 200 Yard IM. Bilonic and Lebedevs finished in 1:47.63 and 1:50.16, respectively. 

The men concluded the opening day with a gold medal in the 400 Yard Medley Relay (Conte, Bilonic, Lebedevs, Peter Jimenez).

The women's 400 Yard Medley Relay team also fared well on the night; clinching a bronze medal finish. Members of the relay team included Michelle Corpuz, Sison, Decisneros and Wuko.

Wuko added an individual bronze medal of her own in the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.04), while Mushtei ame in 4th in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:03.60).
