Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Army swept a doubleheader against Saint Peter's in non-conference softball action on Saturday. The Black Knights (9-10) won the opener 10-0 in six innings and then took the nightcap, 8-1.
Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) made her Jersey City debut with two hits and a run scored for the Peacocks (3-22) while Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) added a hit and an RBI in the two games. Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) had a team-best three hits on the afternoon and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) added a pair of hits in the second game.
Alex Reynolds paced Army with six hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Marina Northrup added four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Amanda Nguyen had four hits, two runs scored and an RBI. April Oretenzo posted two hits, a run scored and four RBIs in the nightcap.
In the second game, the Black Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead and went on for the 8-1 victory.
Ortenzo got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly to left in the first to give Army a 1-0 edge. Reynolds plated the second run with an RBI double in the third and Ali Cleinmark gave the Black Knights a 3-0 advantage with a ground out in the third.
Reynolds increased the lead to 5-0 on a two-run double in the fifth and Ortenzo made it 7-0 with a two-run single through the left side in the sixth.
Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard in the sixth after Harrison belted a double to left field and touched home on Parker's RBI groundout to third to trim the margin to 7-1.
Oretenzo sealed the victory and her four-RBI performance with an RBI single through the left side in the seventh.
The Peacocks had a chance to add to their run total in the seventh. With runners on first and second, Harrison belted a pitch to deep left field, but the left fielder Nguyen made a nice over-the-shoulder catch and then was able to double up the runner at second to end the game.
Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) took the loss in the nightcap.
In the opener, Army downed Saint Peter's 10-0 in six innings.
The Black Knights scored five times in the first with two outs to grab an early 5-0 lead. Northrup and Paige Vallejos got the scoring started with RBI singles to the outfield before Northrup scored on a wild pitch. Bernadette Cardon and Christian McKone followed with consecutive singles through the infield for the five-run advantage.
Army added a run in the second when Kasey McCravey touched home on an error and Vallejos doubled home a run in the fourth to increase the edge to 7-0.
The Black Knights scored three times in the sixth thanks to RBIs by Cardon, McKone and Nguyen to earn the 10-0 victory.
The Peacocks had a runner on base in four of the six innings in the first game.
In the first, D'Amato reached on an infield single with one out, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat.
Parker opened the second with a single to right field, but three pop outs got Army out of the inning.
In the third, Saint Peter's had its best chance to score in the contest. Harrison singled through the left side to open the stanza and D'Amato singled to left field to put runners on first and second with one out. A groundout moved the runners into scoring position, but the inning ended with a pop out.
Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) took the loss in the first game.
Morgan Lashley pitched both games for the Black Knights, allowing one run on nine hits and eight strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
The Peacocks return to action on Wednesday at home against UMBC. First pitch of the first game is 2 p.m.
