Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.- A four-run eighth by the Broncs erased a 2-0 Saint Peter's advantage en route to a 4-2 loss for the Peacocks in the rubber game of this weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series.
Matt Mancini (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Nicholas Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) finished 2-for-4 to lead the Peacocks (13-22, 6-6 MAAC) in the loss. Mancini scored a run and Henriquez drove one in.
James Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) went 1-for-3 with a run scored on the day.
Adam Wayman led the Broncs (23-15, 9-3 MAAC) to victory going 1-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Saint Peter's led the hosts 2-0 after scoring a run in each of the second and fifth innings. With one out in the second, Smith would be hit by a pitch and score in the next at bat as William Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) tripled to right field. The Peacocks added their second run of the game with one out as well, after Mancini doubled on and crossed home on an RBI basehit by Henriquez.
Starting right-handed pitcher Zach Hopf (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) kept the Broncs scoreless through the first seven innings, allowing just three hits until the hosts rallied for four runs during what proved to be their last turn at bat.
Justin Thomas started off the inning for Rider with a single to left and advanced to second on a groundout. A Saint Peter's throwing error put runners at second and third, before Jerry Mulderig was intentionally walked to load the bases. That would be when Wayman delivered his three-run blow on a double to left field. Rider added a final run on the second Peacock error of the frame.
All four runs were unearned. Hopf picked up his seventh loss of the year and allowed five hits total, while striking out four.
Saint Peter's left a total eight runners on base, including one in the top of the ninth.
The Peacocks return to action on April 24th, for a non-conference contest against Villanova on the road.
