Box Score 2 RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Jaspers (10-14, 2-0 MAAC) won the opener 7-2 and then took the nightcap, 4-1.
Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) paced the Peacocks (5-28, 1-3 MAAC) with three hits including a solo home run. Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) added three hits and an RBI while Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) registered two hits, a run scored and an RBI on the afternoon.
Kate Bowman was the driving force behind the game one victory for Manhattan, going 2-for-2 with two homer runs, four RBIs and two runs scored and added a hit and a run scored in the nightcap. Amanda Babcock paced the Jaspers in the second game with a three-run homer.
Just like in the opener, Saint Peter's grabbed an early lead in the first inning only to see Manhattan score the final four runs in the contest to take a 4-1 victory.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Bowman gave the Jaspers the lead for a good on a three-run homer to left field for a 3-1 edge. Andi Stallard added another run in the third inning when she touched home on a wild pitch.
The Peacocks jumped out to an early 1-0 edge after the top of the first. Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) walked to start the game. D'Amato reached on an infield single before Olmedo doubled home Harrison with one out while D'Amato was thrown out on the play at the plate.
Manhattan would then score the final four runs to complete the twinbill sweep.
In the opener, Saint Peter's grabbed the early 1-0 lead before the Jaspers scored seven of the final eight runs to earn the 7-2 victory.
For the second time in three games, D'Amato smacked a home run in the first inning to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
Manhattan then scored the next seven runs to grab a 7-1 lead. Bowman tied the game at 1 with a homer to left center in the bottom of the first and then sparked a six-run third with a two-run homer to start the rally. Stallard added an RBI double before the Jaspers coaxed bases loaded walks by Jocelin Whitmore and Emily Cutler. Bowman then capped the six-run stanza when she forced home a run after being hit by the pitch.
Back-to-back doubles in the sixth brought home Saint Peter's second run of the game. Olmedo hit an opposite field double and then touched home on Parker's RBI ground-rule double down the left field line to trim the margin to 7-2.
Shelby Beaver (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) took the loss in both contest.
Saint Peter's returns to action when the squad host Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday. First pitch is 3 p.m.
