Men's Golf Leads Lafayette Invitational After First Round

EASTON, Pa. – Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished the first round tied for fourth to power the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a first-place standing at the Lafayette Invitational on Sunday.

Molson carded a three-over first nine holes of 39 and then was one under on the back nine for a 35 to post a 74 in the first round to sit in fourth place going into the final round, two strokes behind the current leader.

After winning three events in the fall, the Peacocks go into the final round with a slim one-stroke advantage over Lehigh and Central Connecticut State after posting a 302 in the opening round. It will be the fourth time in 2012-13 Saint Peter's enters the final round in first place and the squad will be looking for its second wire-to-wire tournament win this season after taking the ECAC Championships in the fall after leading after both days.

Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) (13th place, 75), Andrew Gain (Gold Coast, Australia/Bond College) (19th place, 76) and Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.J./John Jay) (31st place, 77) each sit five strokes behind the current leader while Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) (52nd place, 80) also competed as apart of the Peacocks' five competitors. Luke Previte  (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) (91st place, 85) is participating in the event as an individual.

Six strokes separate the Top-8 teams and 10 strokes are between the Top-10 teams in the field. Saint Peter's leads the two-day event with a score of 302, one stroke ahead of Lehigh (303) and Central Connecticut State (303) while Army (305) and Monmouth (305) round out the Top-5 teams in the field.

The Peacocks look to wrap up their fourth tournament victory of the year and the first of the spring in the final round of the Lafayette Invitational on Monday. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.
