LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- Paced by strong doubles play, the Saint Peter's University men's tennis team secured their third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory, and defeated the Siena College Saints by a score of 5-2 yesteday.
The Peacocks set the stage right away; sweeping all three doubles matches.
At #1 doubles, Carlos Carrera (Quito, Ecuador/APCH) and partner Oliver Bellomi (Parksville, BC/Laurel Spring) bested Peter Collins and Ryan Schmitz by a score of 8-3, while both the Peacocks' #2 and #3 doubles teams won by scores of 8-5. Marko Knezevic (Zadar, Croatia/V. Nazor) and Luccas Coutinho (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Coligio GPI-Vinicula) defeated Eric Sumanaru and Alex Burbones (#2 Doubles), while Fabian Valdiviezo (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio-Aleman) and Mario Huljev (Zadar, Croatia/Zadar Private HS) topped Dylan Roberts and Matthew Funiciello.
Saint Peter's picked up victories in all but two singles matches.
Carrera carried his strong doubles play into his #1 singles match, as he defeated Schmitz by scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Coutinho defeated his opponent at #3 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-3, while Bellomi also won in straight sets (6-3, 6-0).
Valdiviezo captured the final singles win for the Peacocks in dramatic fashion, winning in three sets, but needing a tie breaker for both the second and third sets.
The Peacocks return to the Yanitelli Bubble for their final home contest of the 2012-13 season this Friday. Saint Peter's will host Hartford for non-conference action starting at 3pm.
Senior Alex Frakes, the lone fourth-year Peacock, will be honored for his contributions to the program prior to the match.
