Parker-Beaver Tandem Sparks Softball To Victory In Final Collegiate Contest; Peacocks Split Twinbill With Iona

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Sierra Parker (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) and Shelby Beaver (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) made the most of their final collegiate game to fuel Saint Peter's past Iona 13-9 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball action on Saturday. The Gaels (13-37, 9-7 MAAC) won the opener, 5-3.

Parker recorded four hits in her first four at-bats in the nightcap with two singles and two doubles before grounded out in her final collegiate at-bat. The senior scored three runs and added an RBI in the victory. Parker had a double in the opener to finish the day with three two baggers.

Beaver ended her career with a victory on the mound after allowing eight runs (two earned) on 13 hits with one strikeout in 5.2 innings for her third win of the season.  She also added a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs in the win. The senior recorded a hit in the first game.

Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) registered four hits, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Peacocks (9-45, 2-14 MAAC) while Francesca D'Amato posted four hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, including a two-run homer in the two games.

Allison Hand fueled Iona with five hits and two RBIs while Brianna King notched three hits and two runs scored on the day.

Saint Peter's scored nine runs in three innings to break a 2-all standstill and hold on to end its season and the collegiate careers of Beaver, Parker and Alexis Gallagher (Narvon, Pa./Garden Spot) on a high note with the victory. Gallagher did not play in the game after a season-ending leg injury earlier in the season.

After the Gaels tied the game at 2 with a run in the second, the Peacocks scored three runs in the third to take the lead for good. Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) started the rally with a single before Parker put runners at second and third on a double to left center. Crews gave Saint Peter's the lead it would not relinquish on a run-scoring single through the left side. Beaver then plated Parker with a single to right field before Beaver touched home on Stephanie Gilronan's (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook's) RBI fielder's choice for a 5-2 edge.

Sydney Dimon cut the margin to one run for Iona on a two-run homer in the fourth only to see the Peacocks post five runs in the fourth.

D'Amato single to right center to open the stanza and touched home on Parker's second double of the contest down the left field line and Crews then plated Parker with a pop single on the right field line. After Beaver singled to center, Taylor Corretjer (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) brought home Crews and Beaver on a double to left center. Gilronan capped a rally for the second-straight inning with an RBI single to center to hand Saint Peter's a 10-4 advantage.

Parker nearly helped the Peacocks end the game in five innings with a single to right center before touching home on Crews' double to left field for an 11-4 lead. With the game-ending run on a second base, a pair of ground outs sent the game to the sixth.

Aided by an error, Iona scored four times in the sixth to trim the margin to 11-8. Brianna Schauer singled home a run, Hand added a two-run single and Katie Janssen brought home the third run of the stanza on an RBI single through the left side.  Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) came in to record the final out in the inning.

Saint Peter's responded right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Corretjer singled down the right field line to start the inning before Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) scorched a two-run homer to center to give the Peacocks a 13-8 margin.

Beth Kann recorded an RBI ground out in the seventh, but Saint Peter's came away with the 13-9 win.

Colon picked up the save after recording the final four outs of the contest.

The Gaels got the scoring started in the contest with a Hand RBI single in the first for its only lead of the game at 1-0.

The Peacocks came back with two runs in the bottom of the stanza to take a 2-1 edge. Harrison led off the inning with a walk and touched home on Olmedo's single through the right side. After a Parker and an error, Olmedo crossed the plate on Beaver's RBI fielder's choice.

Iona tied the game in the second on Dimon's RBI fielder's choice, but Saint Peter's scored nine of the next seven runs to take the lead and earn the win.

In the opener, the Gaels scored the first four runs of the day with a run in the first and three in the second.

Hand got the scoring started with an RBI single through the left side in the first.  Jodi Peterson doubled home a run and Schauer plated two runs on a single to center field for a 4-0 lead after two innings.

The Gaels added a run in the fourth on a Kann run-scoring single in the fourth for a 5-0 advantage.

The Peacocks scored three times in the fourth to trim the margin to 5-3. Parker started the rally with a double and came around to score of D'Amato's homer to left. Crews doubled scored on Beaver's RBI single up the middle to make it a two-run game. Iona then retired 12 of the final 15 batters to secure the victory.

Harrison took the loss in the opener. Colon allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts over the final six innings.
