JERSEY CITY, N.J. – In our countdown we have honored personal accomplishments, team accomplishments, events that took place on the field and in the classroom, but the one thing that can top them all is humanity. The Mid-Atlantic region suffered through a horrific weather event and the state of New Jersey was not spared from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. When tragic events happen, communities usually band together and led by the Saint Peter's University baseball team the Saint Peter's student-athletes went out into the community to help out after the storm to lift up the top moment in our 2012-13 Top-15 Moments Countdown.
Saint Peter's baseball coach Sean Cashman saw his hometown decimated by Hurricane Sandy's massive tidal surge. After talking to his assistant coaches, 12 baseball student-athletes came out to help the Toms River community on the first day. The numbers increased each day and while baseball led the charge soon members of the Peacocks' women's soccer and softball team also joined in on the effects.
There were gut outs, mud outs, sand outs and yard clean up and took 25 houses down to the studs.
Every Saint Peter's athletic team performs community service throughout the year, but this is just one example of how humanity can outweigh anything accomplished as an athlete.

The 2013-14 athletic season is just around the corner and we look to make more moments starting with the women's soccer season opener against Wagner on Aug. 23 at Jaroschak Field.
