2013 Schedule
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's University women's volleyball head coach Andrew Brown has announced his 2013 schedule. Highlighting the 32-game schedule is 11 matches at the Yanitelli Center.
"We will use our 12 non-conference matchups before conference play to help build our teams chemistry and level and with five incoming players we will be looking to improve on last season," said Brown.
The Peacocks will open up their 30th campaign in program history at the Lehigh Tournament on Aug. 30-31. The team will open up the tournament against Rhode Island on Aug. 30 before battling the host Mountain Hawks and New Hampshire the next day.
It will be the first meetings against Rhode Island and New Hampshire while the Peacocks have played Lehigh 10 times in program history.
Saint Peter's will play a home and home with NJIT, starting at the Highlanders on Sept. 4. The two teams will also play in Jersey City on Oct. 9. It will be the sixth and seventh tilts against the Newark program in team history.
Returning to the Lehigh Valley for the second weekend in a row, the Peacocks will participate in the Lafayette College Tournament on Sept. 6-7. The squad will face Wright State on the Lafayette campus in the afternoon before battling Fairleigh Dickinson in the evening on the campus of Lehigh on the first day of the two-day event. The team will close out the event by facing Lafayette on the Leopards home court and a second meeting in a week against Lehigh in Bethlehem in the evening on Sept. 7.
It will be the second-straight season the Peacocks will face Wright State and the third time in program history while the team will face Fairleigh Dickinson for the 20th-consecutive season and it will mark the 27th meeting in the series with Saint Peter's holding a 19-8 advantage in the matchup. The Peacocks will tangle with Lafayette for the eighth-straight campaign and the 14th time holding an 8-5 advantage in the series.
Saint Peter's heads to upstate New York for three matches at Syracuse on Sept. 13-14. The Peacocks will battle the host Orange and Chicago State on Sept. 13 and then will face Delaware State the next morning to conclude its time at Syracuse.
Syracuse and Chicago State make their first appearance on the schedule in 2013 while Delaware State is on the slate for the seventh time with the series tied at three.
Making its 2013 home debut, Saint Peter's welcomes St. Francis Brooklyn to town on Sept. 17 for the 14th meeting in the series.
The team will then open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at home against Canisius (Sept. 21), Niagara (Sept. 22), Manhattan (Sept. 25), Rider (Sept. 28) and Iona (Oct. 2) to conclude a six-match homestand.
"Going into conference play we are excited to welcome Quinnipiac to the league," said the second-year head coach. "We look to gain momentum going into the conference season with every team we face being strong opponents in the MAAC."
The Peacocks will face their first conference road test at Fairfield (Oct. 5) and at Quinnipiac (Oct. 7) before returning home for a three matches in Jersey City.
After NJIT completes the home-and home series on Oct. 9, Siena (Oct. 12) and Marist (Oct. 13) both come to town.
Saint Peter's starts a five-game road trip with its final non-conference match at Providence on Oct. 16 with the sixth meeting in the matchup. The squad returns to league play on the road at Manhattan (Oct. 19), Iona (Oct. 20), Niagara (Oct. 26) and Canisius (Oct. 27).
The Peacocks begin the month of November with its final two home games of the year when Fairfield (Nov. 2) and Quinnipiac (Nov. 3) invade the Yanitelli Center.
Saint Peter's concludes the regular season at Rider (Nov. 9), Marist (Nov. 16) and Siena (Nov. 17).
The Top-4 teams in the league will participate in the MAAC Volleyball Championships on Nov. 23-24 at Siena.
