Women's Volleyball Falls To Delaware State

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team drops its final match in the Candlewood Suites Challenge on Saturday to Delaware State.

Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) finished with a team-high 14 kills. Senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J. / Newton) and sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) registered 11 kills each in the contest.

First set, both teams traded points back and forth to tie the set at six. The Peacocks went on an 8-1 run behind kills by Reinhart and Behrens to take a 14-7 lead. The Hornets would respond, scoring seven straight points to tie the set at 14. Back-to-back points by Delaware State would help give them a 17-15 lead. The Peacocks would not lie down, scoring four consecutive points to take a 19-17 lead. The teams would continue to exchange points to tie the game at 24.  The Peacocks would hold on, finishing the set on a 4-2 run to win, 28-26.

Second set, both teams remained even, exchanging points to tie the set at 10. The Hornets would take off, going on an 8-3 run to take an 18-13 lead. The Peacocks would respond, scoring three straight points to close the deficit to two. Saint Peter's would not be able to close the gap, as Delaware State went on to win the second set, 25-21.

In the third set, points were traded back and forth between the two teams with Saint Peter's holding an early 13-9 lead. Delaware State would respond, tallying eight straight points to take a 17-13 lead. The Hornets would not look back, taking the third set, 25-22.

Fourth set, Delaware State jumped out early with a 10-3 run. Saint Peter's would respond, going on a 12-5 run to tie the set at 15. The Peacocks and Hornets would exchange points to tie the set at 21. Delaware St. would hold on, scoring four straight points to win the set, 25-21.

Junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with a game-high 31 assists. Senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with a game-high 24 digs.

Delaware State player Jasmine Jackson registered a game-high 22 kills.

With the loss, the Peacocks drop to 1-10 overall on the season.

Saint Peter's returns to action Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., when they welcome Saint Francis Brooklyn for its home opener.
