Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Ashley Drozd (Calverton, N.Y./Riverhead) and Maggie Neiswanger (Holyoke, Mass./South Windsor) each scored a goal in the second half to lift Saint Peter's past VMI 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday.
Drozd, who also tallied a goal against LIU Brooklyn on Friday, notched her third goal of the season when she rocketed a shot from 25-yards out at the 66:12 mark to give the Peacocks (1-4-0) the lead they would not relinquish.
Neiswanger capped the squad's first victory of the year when she nailed a shot from right to left past a diving Keydets (2-5-0) goalkeeper at the 77:49 mark to give Saint Peter's a 2-0 lead. It was the senior's first goal of the season and third of her career.
Molly O'Halloran (Colonia, N.J./Union Catholic Regional) made two saves in between the pipes to record her first win and first collegiate shutout as the Peacocks' netminder.
Liz Nickerson made one save in 50:32 minutes of action while Emily Marbury made five saves and allowed two goals in the final 39:28 of the game for VMI.
After a scoreless first half, Saint Peter's looked to a freshman and a senior for offense and went on for a 2-0 win for the squad's first win of the season and to give head coach Rob Bielan his first win as the Peacocks' head coach.
Saint Peter's had 15 shots on the season coming into the game and registered 23 shots on the day. Neiswanger paced the squad with seven shots on the afternoon.
The Peacocks return to action on Thursday when they wrap up non-conference play against Delaware State. Match time is 4 p.m.
