Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team won their second consecutive game on Thursday, defeating non-conference opponent Delaware State 2-1.
Senior Greta Vogel (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills (Scottsdale Community College) registered her second goal of the season off a corner kick from sophomore Kaitlyn Lima (Kearny, N.J./Kearny (New Jersey City). Lima kicked the ball into the box, where Vogel was able to control the ball and fire a shot into the net.
Junioer Shannon Nutly (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) tallied her first collegiate goal in the second half. Midway through the second half, off a pass from freshman Ashley Drozd (Baiting Hallow, N.Y./Riverhead High School), Nutly was able to drill a shot into the net to take a 2-0 Peacock lead.
Delaware State would not go away without a fight, as Kaitlyn Schech scored a goal minutes later to cut the deficit to one goal and keep Saint Peter's on their heels. The goal scored by the Hornets was first goal scored by Delaware State all season. Saint Peter's would be play solid defense the rest of the way, and hold on to win the contest.
Saint Peter's continue to be aggressive on offense, taking 12 shots compared to Delaware State's 5.
With the win, the Peacocks improve to 2-4-0 on the year while the Hornets drop to 0-6-0.
Saint Peter's continues its home stand on Saturday, when they welcome Quinnipiac to Jersey City for their conference opener.
