Manhattan Upends Women's Volleyball, 3-0

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Wednesday night.

Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) paced the Peacocks (3-12, 1-2 MAAC) with nine kills while Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) added eight kills on the night. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) posted a team-best 24 assists and Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) recorded a team-high eight digs in the loss.

Sydney Volovski and Malia McGuiness each had eight kills to pace the Jaspers (8-7, 2-1 MAAC) while Ellie Wiekamp paced the team with nine digs and Teodora Peric  notched 25 assists in the winning effort.

Manhattan won all three sets to take the match to earn the victory in the third conference game for both teams.

Saint Peter's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first set thanks to kills by Reinhart and Behrens. Manhattan fought back to tie the score at 5.

With the game tied at 9, the Jaspers went on a 6-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. The Peacocks came back to make it a 19-17 game after a Behrens service ace, but then Manhattan closed the first game with final six points to earn a 25-17 win in the opening game.

In the second game, Manhattan jumped out to an early lead before Saint Peter's rallied to take a 14-13 lead after a Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) kill. The Jaspers then went on a 12-5 run to close out the second set with a 25-19 victory.

The third set was a seesaw battle that Manhattan came out with a 25-22 win to earn the three-set decision. The Peacocks grabbed a 15-12 lead and a 16-13 margin after a Reinhart kill. The Jaspers answered to tie the set at 19.

Manhattan then recorded consecutive points to take the lead it would not relinquish and earn the victory.

Prior to the game, Pliska was honored for reaching the 1,000-dig plateau. The senior captain reached the mark against St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 17.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday at the Yanitelli Center against Rider. Match time is 1 p.m.
