Bethlehem, Pa. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season against Fairleigh Dickinson Friday night in the Lafayette tournament.
Senior Laura Reinhart finished (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) with a team-high 14 kills. Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico / Carvin School) registered double-digit kills as well, finishing with 12. Sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished with nine kills and freshman Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) tallied eight kills.
In the first set, the two teams traded points throughout. With the score tied at 22, the Knights managed to score two straight points to take the lead. The Peacocks responded with consecutive points of their own to tie the game. The teams would continue to exchange points, with Fairleigh Dickinson ultimately winning the set, 29-27.
The second set wasn't much different than the first, as the Peacocks and Knights continued to trade points back and forth. With the score tied at 11, Saint Peter's scored four straight points to take a 15-11 lead. The Knights were unable to close the deficit, as Saint Peter's went on to win the second set, 25-23.
Third set, Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. With Saint Peter's trailing for most of the set, they continued to chip away at the deficit to tie the set at 20. With the score tied, the Peacocks seized the set and scored three consecutive points to take the lead. Saint Peter's would not look back, winning the third set 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Peacocks and Knights exchanged points with the Peacocks holding on to a 9-8 lead. Saint Peter's widened the deficit, scoring five consecutive points to take a 14-8 lead. Saint Peter's would not give up the lead, going on to win the set, 25-20.
Fairleigh Dickinson players Violeta Slavakova and Courtney Kovensky both finished with double-digit kills.
Senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with 25 digs while junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with 36 assists. Senior Stephanie Mills (Albuquerque, N.M. /Del Norte) registered three blocks in the contest.
With the win, Saint Peter's improve to 1-5 while Fairleigh Dickinson remains winless on the season.
Saint Peter's will return to action on Saturday to face Lafayette at 12 p.m. and Lehigh at 3 p.m.
