JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's University softball head coach Ken Passante has announced his 2013-2014 schedule.
"In viewing our schedule I am very excited at the level of competition for the first 20 games before our Conference schedule begins", said Passante, who enters his first season as softball head coach. "I believe the team is pretty good and playing at this level will give us the opportunity to get all the kinks out and find out what makes all of us tick. Hopefully this type of schedule will prepare us for the MAAC Conference."
The squad opens up the year in South Carolina for the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The team squares off against Coastal Carolina and the University of Maryland E. Shores on Mar. 1. The team concludes play in South Carolina on Mar. 2 when they take on both Marshall University and Samford University.
The Peacocks then leave for Florida, in which they take on both Sacred Heart and Temple on Mar. 8. The following day, the squad takes on Akron and Utah Valley. On Mar. 10, the team competes against Siena and South Dakota. Following an off day, the team returns to action to face Indiana St and Utah Valley on Mar. 12. Saint Peter's returns to action the following day to take on Creighton and Albany. The Peacocks conclude its Florida trip on Mar. 15, when they take on Army and Howard.
The squad returns to action Mar. 21 for a Friday tilt against UMBC. The following day, the team takes on Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart. The Peacocks take on Sacred Heart again on Mar. 23 along with UMBC to conclude the team's Maryland road trip. Saint Peter's closes out the final weekend of March with conference doubleheaders against Iona (Mar. 29) and Rider (Mar. 30).
Saint Peter's opens up the month of April at home with a doubleheader against Wagner on Apr. 3. The squad resumes MAAC play Apr. 5 when they host Quinnipiac for a Saturday doubleheader. The Peacocks will then hit the road to take on Army on Apr. 8 before traveling to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Apr. 9. Saint Peter's returns home for a weekend doubleheader against Niagara (Apr. 12) and Canisius (Apr. 13). The squad continues its home stand on Apr. 16 when they host Lafayette. The team returns to action the following day for a doubleheader against Columbia.
The Peacocks hit the road for a doubleheader against conference opponent Monmouth on Apr. 19. Saint Peter's continues its road trip Apr. 23 for a Saturday doubleheader against Delaware. The squad concludes the month of April with weekend doubleheaders against Fairfield and Manhattan.
