Swimming And Diving Celebrates Senior Day With Sweep Against Iona

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's and women's swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of Iona on Saturday. The Peacocks women downed the Gaels 171-95 and the men took Iona by a score of 155-121.

Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck), Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi), Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola), Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Crest) each won two individual events on the women's side. Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American School Foundation) and Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) won three events each while Aaron Manfredo recorded two victories for the Saint Peter's men's team.

Feneron won the 200 fly (2:15.25) and the 200 IM (2:13.79) while Mushtei took care of the distance races with wins in the 1000 free (10:38.63) and the 500 free (5:16.01). Samardzic, the current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Female Swimmer of the Week, was victorious in the 100 back (58.05) and the 200 back (2:03.36). Sison won the 100 breast (1:08.71) and the 200 breast (2:26.04) and posted wins the 50 free (24.05) and the 100 free (52.80). Wuko also placed second in the 200 free (2:00.74), Feneron was second in the 100 fly (1:02.07) and Sison placed third in the 200 IM (2:15.32).

Gomez, a two-time MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week honoree, recorded first-place finishes in the 100 back (52.57), the 200 back (1:56.76) and the 500 free (4:45.31). Garcia placed first in the 50 free (22.40), 100 free (49.50) and the 100 fly (52.23) while Manfredo won the 1-meter dive (184.80) and the 3-meter dive (173.40).

Alma Lopez (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) celebrated her final home meet with a win in the 200 free and then helped the Peacocks sweep the Top-3 spots in the 500 free after finishing behind Mushtel with a time of 5:20.83 while Christina Petrelis (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) placed third in the event (5:33.86). Just like Lopez, senior Cristina DeCisneros (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) won in her final meet at the Yanitelli Center with a victory in the 100 fly (1:01.85). The senior also helped Saint Peter's to the top three spots in the 200 fly. DeCisneros placed second behind Feneron in the 200 fly (2:18.79) while Petrelis was third in the event (2:26.12). Petrelis also finished third in the 1000 free (11:07.85) and Jenna Carbin (Neptune, N.J./Jackson Memorial) was third in the 200 back (2:19.83).

Samardzic, Sison, Feneron and Wuko opened the meet by teaming up to win the 200-medley relay (1:50.30) while Samardzic, Brigitte Rasmussen (Virgin Islands/Country Day School), Lopez and Petrelis placed second in the 200-free relay (1:43.23).

Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) won the 1000 free (9:49.26) and finished second in the 500 free (4:50.73). Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed first in the 100 breast (1:00.35) and Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) won the 200 breast (2:23.38) and finished second to Dunne in the 100 breast (1:03.28). Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venzuela/San Ignacio) took the 200 fly (1:57.45) and placed second in100 fly (52.69).

Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry) and Alex McElvaney (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) each enjoyed their final home meet on the afternoon after McGraw finished second in the 200 free (1:59.66) and McElvaney placed third in the 50 free (23.06). Omar Hassan (Bayonne, N.J./High-Tech) recorded a second-place standing in the 200 back (2:03.40).

Gomez, Jimenez, Garcia and Dunne teamed up to win the 200-medley relay (1:38.37) and Hassan, Rubin, McGraw and McElvaney closed the meet with a second-place standing in the 200-free relay (1:30.99).

Saint Peter's has its final tune up for the MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships at Bridgeport on Feb. 1. The Peacocks will then compete in the MAAC Championships on Feb. 13-14.
