Women's Basketball Falls To Rider, 68-40.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's basketball was defeated, 68-40 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Thursday against Rider University.

Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) notched a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds in the contest. Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) finished with eight points and four assists in the loss.

Saint Peter's got on the board first with a layup from May. Back-to-back field goals from the Broncs gave Rider an early 4-2 lead. A free throw from Bent cut the deficit to one.

A pair of free throws from Manon Pellet gave Rider a 6-3 lead. Saint Peter's responded with back-to-back layups to give the Peacocks a 7-6 lead.

Following a media timeout, Rider hit its next three field goals to take 12-7 advantage. A jumper form Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) cut the deficit to one possession. Rider countered with seven straight points, including two baskets from Mikal Johnson to take a 19-9 lead.

The Peacocks responded with a 3-pointer from May and a layup from Bent to cut the deficit to single digits. The Broncs countered with an 8-0 run to take a 27-14 lead. A layup from Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) cut the Rider lead. The Broncs countered with a 3-ball from Shereen Lightbourne to extend the Rider lead, 30-16.

A pair of free throws from Teresa Corchado (Willingboro, N.J./Camden Catholic) cut the deficit to 12. Rider answered with consecutive layups to take a 35-18 lead. The Peacocks countered with a layup from Bent to cut the lead. Rider followed up with a layup to extend its lead. Bent answered with another layup, but the Broncs took a 36-23 lead going into the locker room.

In the second half, Rider opened up with a 16-7 run to take a 52-30 lead.  Saint Peter's countered with a 3-pointer from May to cut the deficit. The Broncs countered with a 3-ball from Stephanie Mason to extend the lead.

Off an official timeout, Kaycee DeVoogd (Edison, N.J./New Providence) hit a jumper to cut the Broncs lead. Rider countered with three straight baskets to take a 61-35 lead. The Peacocks answered with another field goal from DeVoogd to trim the deficit. Rider responded with back-to-back field goals to extend its lead. The Peacocks answered with a 3-ball from Kylie Garrett (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Western Brown) to cut the lead. Rider responded with another 3-ball to cap off a 68-40 win.  

Rider finished with three players in double figures, including McKenzie, who finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Duggan finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Rider improves to 7-7 and earns its third conference victory.

The Peacocks return to action Jan. 12, when it welcomes Niagara University to the Yanitelli Center.
