LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Saint Peter's defeated Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's tennis matchup on Sunday.
The Peacocks (2-2, 1-0 MAAC) defeated Rider (0-5, 0-1) in two of three doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead.
The tandem of Carlos Carrera (Quito, Ecuador/APCH) and Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/(UMKC)) defeated their opponents, 8-5. Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) and Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quito, Ecuador/Centebad) defeated the duo of Matthew Begley and Jeremy Van Herwarde 8-3.
After dropping the first set in No. 1 singles, Carrera battled back to defeat Chanton Phan, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Ivanov cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory over Adam Levi. Rojas downed opponent in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Rodriguez and Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) each suffered losses in singles competition.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 16, when the team competes in the ITA Tournament.
