LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's tennis team won a 4-3 decision over Rider on Sunday.
Rider (0-5) took a 1-0 lead against Saint Peter's (2-1, -2-0 MAAC) in doubles play, defeating the Peacocks in all three contests.
In No. 1 singles, Alison Noll downed Adina Ungurean-Halagian (Bucharest, Romania/Schiller International School) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Elena Melian Puigventos (Gran Canaria, Spain/Canlebury School of las Palmas) scored a point for Saint Peter's in No. 2 singles, winning a two-set matchup against Danielle Scrudato 6-2, 6-1.
Mali Hedberg (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard (Eastern Washington)) won her singles matchup by default. After dropping the first set in No. 4 singles, Claudia Hellman (Madrid, Spain/Scandinavian School (Brevard)) came back to defeat her opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Christian Resurreccion (Jersey City, N.J./McNair Academy) broke the tie, outlasting her opponent Leonora Paul 6-3, 6-2 to power Saint Peter's to a 4-3 decision.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 17, when the team concludes its fall season at the ITA Tournament.
