ELLINGTON, Conn. – Captains Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) finished tied for 25th to lead the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a sixth-place standing at the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday.
Edmunds carded an even-par first round of 72, a 74 in the second round and an 80 in the final round for a three-round score of 226 while Grubbs posted a 74, 77 and 75 in the three rounds to also register a 226 in the three rounds to finish tied for 25th, 14 strokes behind the medalist.
The Peacocks posted its best scores of the fall season in its final competition of the 2014 portion of the slate. The squad tallied 14 of the 15 rounds in the 70's.
Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) (34th place, 227), Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) (46th place, 229) and Dominic Diaz (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) (51st place, 230) rounded out the five Saint Peter's participants.
Connecticut won its own event with a three-round score of 867, six strokes ahead of Hartford (873) while Colgate (883), Bryant (890) and Central Connecticut State (897) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field. The Peacocks posted a 296 in the first round, a 303 in the second round and a 302 in the final round to card a 901 in the event and finish in sixth place.
Saint Peter's was one of five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams in the field and the defending MAAC Championships bested the other four league teams at the event. The event concluded the Peacocks fall slate.
Teams were scheduled to play 36-continious holes on Monday, but the second round was interrupted by darkness. The competitors finished the second round and played the final round on Tuesday.
