Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist defeated Saint Peter's 2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Saturday night.
Ashley Drozd (Baiting Hallows, N.Y./Riverhead) notched her first goal of the season for the Peacocks (1-15, 1-6 MAAC) while Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mount Si) made nine saves in the loss.
Jessica Fanelli and Amanda Epstein each found the twine for the Red Foxes (2-8-4, 1-3-3 MAAC) and Christina Lampasi and Jamie Strumwasser each handed out assists. Makala Foley made one save in the winning effort.
Marist scored the first two goals of the second half and held on after a late Saint Peter's charge for its second-straight win in the series.
After a scoreless first half, Fanelli scored from the right corner off a pass kicked out of the box by Lamasi at the 57:03 mark for a 1-0 edge. Epstein then scored the decisive goal off a feed from Strumwasser for a two-goal margin at the 65:51 mark.
Drozd trimmed it to a one-goal lead for the Peacocks when she drilled in a free kick from 15-yards out at the 84:33 mark. After making it a 2-1 contest, Saint Peter's did not register a shot in the final five minutes and 27 seconds.
The Peacocks return to action on Wednesday when they host Rider in an hOURglass Rivalry matchup. Game time is 3 p.m.
