Stevens Institute Of Technology Sweeps Saint Peter's Swimming And Diving

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology swept a non-conference swimming and diving dual meet against Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Ducks women's team defeated the Peacocks 146-116 and the Stevens Institute of Technology men down was victorious 167.5-94.5.

Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck), Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) paced the Saint Peter's women's team with two individual wins and two relay victories. The trio teamed up with Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) to open the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay (1:49.97) and then closed the meet with a victory in the 400-free relay (3.39.81).

Feneron won the 200 fly (2:13.45) and the 100 fly (1:00.50) while Wuko took first in the 50 free (24.34) and the 100 free (53.34). Samardzic won the 200 back with a meet record time of 2:04.15 and also placed first in the 200 IM (2:10.20).

Bence Greifenstein (Budapest, Hungary/Kerek) and Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) powered the Peacocks men's team with a pair of victories each. Greifenstein won the 100 breast (59.53) and the 200 breast (2:11.07) in his first collegiate dual meet while Gomez placed first in the 200 fly (1:54.84) and the 200 IM while also finishing second in the 200 back (1:54.39).

Also on the women's side, Sison recorded second-place standings in the 100 breast (1:10.76) and the 200 breast (2:32.31). Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) placed second in the 200 free (2:00.99) and the 500 free (5:25.00) while Jenna Carbin (Neptune, N.J./Jackson Memorial) was second in the 100 back and Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) finished second in the 1000 free (10:48.47) and third in the 200 breast (2:34.77).

Along with Greifenstein and Gomez's standout day, Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American School Foundation) placed second in the 100 fly (53.32) and third in the 200 free (1:47.72) while Igal Oren (Jersey City, N.J./Ort Kiryar Bialik) ended second in the 100 breast (1:00.73).

Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) posted third-place finishes in the 1000 free (10:12.33) and the 200 fly (2:00.33) while Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) finished third in the 100 back (55.39) and Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional) placed third in the 50 free (22.29).

Dunne, Garcia, Greifenstein, Garcia and Epstein teamed up to finish second in the 200-medley relay (1:37.33) while Dunne, Gomez, Oren and Epstein placed second in the 400-free relay (3:14.36).

Saint Peter's will host the alumni meet on Nov. 1 and then the men's swimming and diving team will make their 2014-15 Yanitelli Center debut on Nov. 7 against NJIT at 7 p.m. Both teams will then host a tri-meet with Montclair State and Manhattan on Nov. 8 with a 12 p.m. start time.
