Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mount Si) made nine saves for the Peacocks (1-17-0. 1-8-0 MAAC) and Naima Gustafsson (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) had a team-high three shots in the loss.
Kelly Caruso paced the Bobcats (3-12-1, 2-6-1 MAAC) with two assists while Amanda Barroca, Kat Young and Jessica Jankowski each found the twine. Tori Graessle made four saves in nearly 85 minutes to earn her first win of the year.
Quinnipiac scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to earn the victory in the second-ever meeting between the two teams in league play since the Bobcats joined the MAAC last season.
Caruso got the scoring started when she dished the ball to Barroca at the 33:22 mark to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead at the break.
Young made it a two-goal game when she found the twine off a Laura Nicholas assist at 57:28 before Caruso sealed the win with her second helper of the afternoon on Jankowski's tally at the 82:24 mark to seal the victory.
Saint Peter's had a couple of chances to score, but could not convert. Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) had two shots turned away before Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the 22nd and 30th minutes. Alix Couto (Wall, N.J./Wall) had a scoring chance thwarted in the 75th minute and Gustaffson gave the squad its final scoring chance with a shot in the 89th minute that was also turned away.
The Peacocks wrap up their season on Wednesday at home against Manhattan. Game time is 3 p.m. Prior to the match, Saint Peter's will honor seniors Shannon Nulty (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), Greta Vogel (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills [Scottsdale Community College]) and Devon Williams (Neptune City, N.J./Neptune [New Jersey City]).
