JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) and Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) each won two events to lead Saint Peter's to a 131-96 win against NJIT in non-conference men's swimming and diving action on Friday night.
Riepe spend a lot of time in the pool after winning the 1000 free (9:55.47) and the 500 free (4:48.48) while also finishing third in the 100 fly (54.87). Gomez won the 400 IM (4:07.22) and the 100 back (53.13) before wrapping up the meet by swimming the opening leg of the first place 400-free relay (3:14.30). Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional), Thomas Calloni (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) and Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) finished the 400-free relay to help first-year head coach Brie Von Rosendahl to her first coaching victory in the squad's first home match of the year.
Dunne, Bence Greifenstein (Budapest, Hungary/Kerek), Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American Foundation School) and Epstein opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay (1:37.03). Epstein also won the 50 free (22.46) while Greifenstein was first in the 100 breast (58.27) and third in the 400 IM (4:21.91).
Garcia recorded second-place standings in the 50 free (22.49) and the 100 free (48.97) while Calloni (200 free, 1:47.43), Daniel Gayetsky (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) (1000 free, 10:00.94), Igal Oren (Jersey City, N.J./Ort Kiryar Bialik) (100 breast, 1:00.85) and Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) (100 fly, 52.89) also placed second in an event on the night. Dunne placed third in 100 free (49.43) and Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) was third in the 100 breast (1:04.40).
The Saint Peter's women's swimming and diving team will join the men in a tri-meet against Manhattan and Monclair State on Saturday in Jersey City. First splash is 12 p.m.
