BALTIMORE, Md. – Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati / Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola), Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) and Bence Greifenstein (Budapest, Hungary/Kerek) each won an event to pace the Saint Peter's swimming and diving team at the H2ounds Invitational on Saturday.
Samardzic won the 200 back with a time of 2:02.25 and finished second in the 100 back with a time of 58.17 to register the two-best finishes on the women's side in the event. Greifenstein posted a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.11 and placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 58.38 and also finished 10 in the 100 free (53.96) while Gomez finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.24 and also notched a fourth-place standing in the 400 IM with a time of 4:09.24.
Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck) placed third in the 400 IM (4:36.71) and fourth in the 200 fly (2:10.17) while Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) was fourth in the 100 free (53.05) and seventh in the 200 free (1:58.03).
Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) finished sixth in the 1650 free (18:04.42) and ninth in the 200 breast (2:31.93) while Alexandria Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) (100 breast, 1:10.52) and Christina Petrelis (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) (1650 free, 18:32.78) also placed ninth on the day.
The relay team of Samardzic, Sison, Feneron and Michelle Corpuz (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) placed fourth in the 200-medley relay (1:51.48) while Sison, Corpuz, Feneron and Wuko were fifth in the 200-free relay (1:40.93). Wuko, Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), Sison and Samardzic teamed up to place finish in the 400-free relay (3:39.60).
Nicholas Reipe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) placed fifth in the 1650 free (16:34.40) and seventh in the 200 fly (1:56.91) while Igal Oren (Jersey City, N.J./Ort Kiryar Bialik) was fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 100 breast (1:00.33).
Daniel Gayetsky (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) finished sixth in the 1650 free (16:36.27) while Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American Foundation) was seventh in the 100 fly (52.27) and Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) recorded an eighth-place standings in the 200 fly (1:57.35) and the 100 fly (52.32). Thomas Calloni (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) (200 free, 1:48.42) and Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional) (100 free, 48.64) both placed ninth in an event while Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) was 10th in the 200 breast (2:23.67).
Calloni, Epstein, Garcia and Oren finished fifth in the 200-free relay (1:27.72) and Gomez, Calloni, Epstein and Oren were fifth in the 400-free relay (3:13.12).
On the women's side, Saint Peter's fell to Iona (213-125), Loyola (297-63) and Marist (250-110) while Iona (210-134), Loyola (287-72) and Marist (267-89) each defeated the Peacocks on the men's side.
Saint Peter's returns to the pool at home against Rider on Jan. 17. Meet starts at 10 a.m.
