JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's tennis team fell to Rhode Island, 7-0, in non-conference action.
Adina Ungurean-Halagian (Bucharest, Romania/Schiller International School) was defeated by her opponent Galya Chernykl in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Ivana Grbelja (Kelowna, Canada/Immaculata Regional) lost her singles match against Taylor Holden, 6-3, 6-0.
Lucia Radovic (Zadar, Crotia/Skola Primientiene Umietnosti Dizajna) was defeated in consecutive sets, 6-4, 6-0. Elena Melian Puigventos (Gran Canaria, Spain/Canlebury School of las Palmas) lost in her singles match to Nit Asokaraj, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). Vanessa Vogel (Phoenix, Ariz./Boulder Creek) was also defeated, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, the tandem of Halagian and Radovic was defeated, 8-4. The team of Grbelja and Puigventos lost in their doubles match, 8-3.
With the loss, the squad falls to 2-3 overall while Rhode Island improves to 4-3.
Saint Peter's returns to action Mar. 2, when the team takes on Queens (N.Y.) in non-conference action.
