Box Score 2 CONWAY, S.C – The Saint Peter's softball team concluded its play at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sunday with losses to Marshall (11-3) and Samford (17-1).
Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) paced the Peacocks with two RBIs in the morning game against the Herd.
Marshall got on the board in the first inning, following a sac-fly from Raquel Escareno to advance the runner home to give the Herd the 1-0 lead.
The Peacocks countered in the bottom of the first. Harrison smacked a 2-run homerun to give Saint Peter's a 2-1 advantage.
Marshall responded in the following inning with two runs scored after an error committed by the Peacocks to give the Herd a 3-2 lead. Saint Peter's answered with a run in the bottom of the second, when Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) scored off an error by the center-fielder to knot the game at three.
In the fourth inning, Marshall scored a run off a RBI-double from Morgan Kelly to give the Herd a 4-3 lead. Marshall opened things up in the fourth and sixth innings, scoring four runs in each inning to give Marshall the 11-3 victory.
In the later game, Samford scored nine runs in the first inning on its way to a 17-1 victory in five innings of action.
With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 1-3 on the season.
The squad returns to action Mar. 8, when the team travels to Florida to compete in the Rebel Games. The team will open up against Temple University in the tournament.
