Box Score WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest defeated Saint Peter's 8-2 in the final game of the Wake Forest Tournament in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.
Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) paced the Peacocks (2-5) with three hits while Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) added two hits and an RBI in the loss. Saint Peter's finished the tournament 2-2.
Matt Conway fueled the Demon Deacons (8-4) with two hits and four RBIs. Conor Keniry added three hits and two RBIs while Charlie Morgan added a hit and three runs scored in the winning effort.
Wake Forest scored the first three runs and the put the game away in the seventh and eighth innings to earn the win.
The Demon Deacons got on the scoreboard with two runs in the first thanks to an RBI groundout by Conway and a Keniry RBI single to left center for a 2-0 edge.
Jonathan Pryor added a run in the second with a run-scoring single to left for a three-run lead.
Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard with two runs in the fifth. Sean Henry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) walked and Ariel Ramirez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) reached on an infield single before Kristoffersen plated Henry with an RBI single to center. After Moore reached on a fielding error to load the bases, all three runners moved up a base on a wild pitch to bring home Ramirez with the squad's second run. The Peacocks had the bases loaded with no out, but missed a chance to tie the game or take the lead after a pair of strikeouts and a groundout. Wake Forest maintained the lead with a 3-2 margin.
Conway hit a two-run homer in the seventh and Conway, Keniry and Will Craig each recorded RBIs in the eighth to seal the 8-2 victory.
Frank Morris (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman [Seton Hall]) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits with one strikeout in six innings of work.
Saint Peter's returns to action in a three-game series at Delaware State, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is 12 p.m.
