Softball Falls To Iona, 8-0; Second Game Halted In Second Inning Due To Rain

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's softball team opened up conference play on Saturday with an 8-0 loss to Iona.

Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook), Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) and Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) were the lone Peacocks to record a hit in the contest.

Allison Hand paced Iona with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Iona recorded its first two runs of the game in the first inning. Hand was able to make it around the bases following a pass ball. Kelsey Long scored the second run following being hit by a pitch. The Gaels scored again in the second inning, powered by a triple from Katie Newton and a RBI-single from Hand. Iona earned two more runs in the third, following back-to-back doubles and a single to left field.

The Gaels closed out the game in the fifth inning, tacking on three more runs to win the first game of the doubleheader, 8-0.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed, due to inclement weather. The Peacocks were ahead 2-0 in the second inning.

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 4-17 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Peacocks return to action Mar. 30, when they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. for a doubleheader against Rider.
