NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss on Sunday to conference foe Niagara.
The Peacocks were swept in singles competition. Adina Ungurean-Halagian (Bucharest, Romania/Schiller International School) fell in her singles contest in straight sets. Ashley Ta topped her opponent Ivana Grbelja (Kelowna, Canada/Immaculata Regional), 6-2, 6-1. Elena Melian Puigventos (Gran Canaria, Spain/Canlebury School of las Palmas) suffered a 0-6, 1-6 loss to Paulina Velasquez. Lucia Radovic (Zadar, Crotia/Skola Primientiene Umietnosti Dizajna) dropped her singles contest in three sets. Iva Celan downed Vanessa Vogel (Phoenix, Ariz./Boulder Creek), 6-0, 6-2.
Saint Peter's lone victory came in doubles action. The tandem Halagian and Radovic defeated Velasquez and Sarah Hellstem, 6-5.
With the loss, the Peacocks fall to 3-9 overall this season while Niagara improves to 10-5 and remain perfect in conference play.
The squad resumes play on Apr. 5, when it travels up to Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac.
