Men's Tennis Defeats Wagner 7-0

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's tennis team defeated Wagner 7-0 in non-conference action on Saturday.

In singles action, the Peacocks swept the competition, winning all six of its singles matches. 

Carlos Carrera (Quito, Ecuador/APCH) kicked things off with a three-set victory against Christian Grau. Marko Knezevic (Zadar, Croatia/V. Nazor) followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 match win against Sawyer Fonda. Fabian Valdiviezo (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio-Aleman) defeated his opponent in consecutive sets, 6-1, 6-1. Mario Huljev (Zadar, Croatia/Zadar Private) and Luke Whaley (California/La Costa Canyon) capped off the team's success in singles competition, defeating their opponents in straight sets.

Wagner's lone victory came in doubles play, defeating the tandem of Carrera and Jottrand 8-5. The duo of Knezevic and Whaley won its double match, 8-0. Saint Peter's concluded doubles play with a win 8-1 by the tandem of Huljev and Hugo Lima (Puebla, Mexico/Memorial). 

With the victory, the Peacocks improve to 5-3 this season. Wagner falls to 1-4 overall. 

The squad returns to action Mar. 22, when the team is set to face Siena at the Yanitelli Center in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.
