Softball Drops Two Games In Its Opening Day At The Rebel Games

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Peter's softball team suffered losses to Sacred Heart and Temple in the team's opening day at the Rebel Games.

In the morning game, the Pioneers got on the board first in the second inning with a homerun to take a 1-0 lead. Saint Peter's managed to gets hits throughout the contest, but was unable to score runs on its way to a 4-0 loss.

The Peacocks' offense rebounded in its afternoon game against the Temple Owls.

Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) opened up the top of the second inning with leadoff single. Olmedo was able to steal two following a pass ball to get into scoring position. Following a hit from Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech), Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) hit a RBI-double to advance Olmedo home to knot the game at one.

With runners on second and third, Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) was walked, loading up the bases for Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus). Following an error by the Owls, the Peacocks scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Saint Peter's extended its lead with a sac-fly by Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) to take a 4-1 advantage. Following a walk by Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) to load the bases, Olmedo smacked a RBI-single to take a 5-1 lead.

Temple began its comeback trail, scoring a run in third inning and then scoring three runs in the sixth-inning to tie the contest at five.

In the bottom of the seventh, Temple began the inning with a leadoff hit. The Owls got another hit to put runners on the corners before a walk-off RBI-single gave Temple the 6-5 victory.

With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 1-5 overall.

The squad resumes play at the Rebel Games tomorrow, as its set to face Akron and Utah Valley.
